Assunta Sera was born in Italy but came to the United States at the age of eight. She is an accomplished painter who has been painting for many decades. Throughout her career, her subject matter has ranged from the very personal, to architectural, to aerial, and beyond the boundaries of Earth out into the cosmos.
One of her earliest memories was visiting New York City’s Grand Central Station. The grand, soaring architecture and the hussle and bustle of commuters made such a lasting impression on her that she painted multiple scenes within the train station. The more notable one was an aerial view of the iconic information kiosk that sits in the middle of the station. In 1996, she was commissioned to create artwork for a poster celebrating the renovation and restoration of Grand Central Station.
All her works have a sense of swirling motion in a continuous moving pattern that seems ready to explode outside of the boundaries of the artwork.
