Esteban Chavez was born in Denver, Colorado in 1954 and has a BFA (1982) from UC Berkeley, CA and a MFA (1985) from the Yale School of Art, New Haven, CT. He has lived in New York City since 1985 and makes a living as a professional artist. In the Spring of 2003, he received a Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Esteban’s artwork technique is photolithography. He photographs buildings or architectural details using traditional film photography, scans the negatives into the computer and turns the images into full size film positives which are the actual size of the lithographs to be printed. The films are exposed to photographic lithographic plates which are manually inked and rolled through a traditional hand cranked press creating a fine art lithograph.
